Boulder Karate Climbs La Plata Peak for Climbing For Cancer 2026

On Saturday, August 1, eight Boulder Karate students and parents reached the summit of La Plata Peak (14,344') during our 16th annual Climbing For Cancer fundraiser.

We hit the trail shortly after 6:00 AM under beautiful blue skies and perfect hiking weather. The climb covered about 10 miles round trip with 4,400 feet of elevation gain, and every member of our team made it to the summit.

One of the highlights of the day was watching 10-year-old Amitai complete his 10th Colorado Fourteener alongside his dad, Chris. We were also honored to have a cancer survivor on our team, making the climb even more meaningful. Along the trail, several hikers stopped to ask about our Climbing For Cancer banner and shared stories about loved ones who have battled cancer. Those conversations reminded us why we've continued this fundraiser every year since 2011.

Thanks to the incredible support of our Boulder Karate community, we've now raised more than $75,000 for cancer research and support through Climbing For Cancer.
